Never heard of us? We have 28 years of innovation.
MET's head office is located in Talamona, a small town in the heart of the Italian Alps. It is no coincidence that the MET brand has always been associated with the values which characterize its Alpine heritage: efficiency, attention to detail, design, innovation, high-performance, reliability and sustainable development. Since 1987, MET is unrivalled in the field of developing innovative protective gear for cyclists.
MET's focus on safety has lead them to design and produce helmets with unique features and benefits unlike others currently on the market. A few of these innovations include:
OCCIPITAL RETENTION SYSTEM – THE SAFE-T ADVANCED FOR 360° SAFETY
WEIGHT AND COMFORT - When you reach a high level of performance, each gram counts. By reducing by over 20% the weight of the new Safe-T Advanced compared to the previous system, we have obtained a really significant increase in comfort and performance while reducing tiredness. The contact area has been increased yet pressure on the head has been reduced thanks to a more even distribution.
FLOATING SUSPENSION RING - Like all occipital retention systems in the 2015 MET range, the new Safe-T Advanced goes around the whole circumference of the head. Unlike most of our competitors' systems, it does not push the back of the head against the front part of the helmet, but instead keeps the helmet away from the head. By allowing the helmet to rotate very slightly in the event of an oblique impact, it helps absorb part of the impact energy and reduce the risk of consequent brain damage.
GREATER ADJUSTMENT, MORE PRECISE - By reducing the space between notches on the central adjustment wheel, we have increased adjustment precision by 25% compared to the previous system. The vertical adjustment has three positions, with up to 18mm adjustment range compared to the two positions and adjustment range which was limited to 8mm on the previous system.
SIZE - Fitted on all the existing models of our range, the new occipital retention system, the Safe-T Advanced, increases the circumference adjustment available by about 1 cm compared to previous system. Those cyclists who previously needed an L size may now find that the M size fits them well. Others who were at the upper limit of the L size will now have greater manoeuvrability and will even have enough room to wear an under helmet cap in the winter.
MET’S AIR SCALE - A real performance indictor of the helmet’s level of ventilation. When defining ventilation efficiency, a fundamental aspect which directly influences a cyclist’s performance, most helmet manufacturers simply indicate the number of air intakes for such and such model, implying that the helmet with the greatest number of air intakes is therefore the best ventilated. However, in reality, this indication alone does not provide any real information about the true capacity of the helmet to keep the head cool.
MET, on the other hand, has developed its own protocol to measure the helmet’s performance in terms of ventilation called Air Scale, which measures two fundamental parameters. The Head Contact Surface (HCS) and the Cooling Factor (CF).
• Cooling Factor (CF)
The cooling factor is calculated using Fluid Flow Analysis. Through this very high-tech computerized analysis system particle traces are used to visualize and measure the motion of mass-less particles that are placed in a flow field. In our case we measure the velocity and temperature of the air as it goes through the helmet in order to rate each helmet accordingly to its capacity of keeping the head cool. The higher the Cooling Factor, the cooler the head.
• Head Contact Surface (HCS)
The Head Contact Surface indicates in percentage how much of the head is in contact with the helmet. It is easy to understand that where the head is in contact with the helmet there is no room for the air to circulate. The HCS provides a key information to rate a helmet ventilation. The lower the HCS, the better the ventilation.

SILCA built their foundation with innovation, superior materials and craftsmanship ninety years ago in Italy and it's no wonder that they are still in existence today. Without compromising their rich heritage, SILCA pumps of years past continue to be in use today.
In 2013, SILCA was sold and relocated to Indianapolis. New owner, Josh Poertner, a significant contributor to the innovation at Zipp Speed Weaponry for fourteen years, decided to pursue this new direction and is driven to design and build near perfect products, while maintaining the SILCA heritage.
In the fall of 2014, SILCA introduced two new products. The Super Pista Ultimate LP, a low pressure pump with 1% accuracy, perfect for mountain bike, cyclocross or gravel grinders. This is an all in one, where you no longer require a secondary gauge to 'double check' the inflation.
NFS Pro Chain Lube is a special formulation for SILCA and employs the 12-12-12 method. Everybody tells us this method sounds and seems crazy, but trust us, it WORKS. Beginning with a clean, dry chain. Put the chain in the 12 tooth cog and big ring. Apply 12 drops at random around the chain, and then cycle the drivetrain backwards for 12 revolutions. Use a clean dry rag on the lower side of the chain and cycle backward another time or two to remove any excess.
SILCA also walked away with two prestigious accolades in 2014. WINNER OF THE INTERBIKE 2014 'BEST IN SHOW' AWARD! and the Hiro Side Lever Locking Chuck took the grand prize as the Winner of 2014 LAVA Magazine Gear of the Year 'Editor's Choice' Award.
